Quadrangle Books

The publishing firm of Quadrangle Books was founded in Chicago in 1959. In 1967 the firm was purchased by the New York Times and in 1977 it was renamed Times Books. Pyramid Books

The publishing firm of Pyramid Books was founded by Alfred R. Plaine and Matthew Huttner in 1949. In 1975 the firm was acquired by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich and its name changed to Jove Books. In 1979 Jove Books was purchased from Harcourt Brace Jovanovich by the Putnam Berkley Group. Putnam Media

Putnam Media was founded by Colonel Russell L. Putnam in Illinois in the 1930s as a food processing publisher. Since 1973 it has been run by members of the Cappelletti family. Putnam Media has no connection with the firms of G. P. Putnam, Putnam Berkley or Penguin Putnam. See www.putnam.net.

Purnell & Sons

The firm of Purnell & Sons was acquired by Robert Maxwell and became one of the component parts of the British Printing Corporation in 1964. Thereafter the Purnell firm and its titles were closely associated with the firm of Macdonald up to and after the break-up of the Robert Maxwell empire. See the FOB entry for Macdonald & Co.
