Fleetway PublicationsFleetway Publications came into existence in 1959 as the successor firm to Amalgamated Press. In 1963 it became part of IPC Media, and was subsequently purchased by Robert Maxwell. Robert Maxwell's interest in Fleetway was purchased by Egmont in 1991-92 and for about ten years the imprint Egmont Fleetway was used. The Fleetway name has now virtually ceased to appear. George Bell & Sons LtdGeorge Bell established his firm in London in 1839. From 1856 to 1875 the firm was known as Bell & Daldy; it then became George Bell & Sons Ltd. It remained a family firm until 1977, when it was sold to Robin Hyman and renamed Bell & Hyman Ltd. In 1986 Bell & Hyman Ltd merged with George Allen & Unwin to form Unwin Hyman. George Newnes LimitedGeorge Newnes began his publishing firm with the publication of 'Tit-Bits' in 1881. George Newnes Limited was one of three companies which merged in 1963 to form IPC (International Publishing Corporation). IPC was purchased by the Reed Group in 1970, and then by a Cinven-backed consortium in 1998, before being purchased by AOL Time Warner in 2001.
