Elisabeth Goss Stevens was born in Rome, New York. She graduated from Wellesley College,
and received an MA from Columbia University in Modern Literature. As an artist,
Stevens produced etchings, silverpoints, linocuts, and illustrations for her own
books, other authors, and various periodicals. As a journalist and critic, she
wrote articles and reviews on art, architecture, drama, and film for a number of
major national magazines and newspapers, such as The Washington Post and The Wall Street Journal. She was also the author of several works of
fiction and poetry. She died at her home in Sarasota, Florida on June 10, 2018.

Scope and Contents
Limited edition published portfolio, entitled The
Sufferers ([Sarasota, Fla.: Goss Press, 2015), comprised of four
original etchings by Elisabeth Stevens (American, born 1929) in a clamshell box.
Stevens took two quotes from Charles Baudelaire's Les Fleurs
du Mal as her inspiration for the portfolio. Each of the four etchings
depict men and women burdened by their respective appendages, and either troubled
or
elated by love and erotic life.
