Scope and Contents


The Arthur Livingston Literary File Photography Collection consists of 118 items, the majority of which depict people and places that pertain to Livingston. Numerous Italian intellectual, literary, and political figures of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century are represented in the file, including Giovanni Gentile, Giovanni Giolitti, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Fausto Maria Martini, Ugo Ojetti, Aldo Palazzeschi, Vilfredo Pareto, Giuseppe Peano, Italo Svevo, and Guido da Verona, as well as Gabriele D'Annuzio and the actress Eleanora Duse, with whom he had a liaison. An index at the end of this guide lists photographers whose work is featured in this file. Further descriptions of some items may be available in a card catalog in the repository.
This file forms a part of the Literary Files Photography Collection that is comprised of photographs and albums withdrawn from the libraries and/or papers of literary figures, and generally includes portraits and images collected by or of those figures.
