Cartes-de-visite album bound in brown leather, with 25 gilt-edged pages, containing 50 cartes-de-visite of royalty, noblemen, authors, artists, politicians, church leaders, and prominent men and women of the mid to late 1800s. Notable figures include Victor Hugo, Richard Wagner, Charles Dickens, W. E. Gladstone, Benjamin Disraeli, the King of Siam, Queen Victoria, Napoleon III, Kaiser Franz Joseph, Leopold II King of Belgium, Pope Pio Nono, and Capt. Matthew Webb (the first man to swim the English Channel). The photographers of all but 10 cartes are known and include: London Stereoscopic Company (3); Friedrich Bruckmann (2), Charlet & Jacotin (2); Disderi (2); F. C. Earl (2); J. E. Mayall (2); Pierre Petit (2); Camille Silvy (2, one of which was published by Mason & Co.); John Watkins (2), John & Charles Watkins (2, one of which was published by Mason & Co.); and one photograph each by D.
