Writers who published a volume of poetry or contributed at least one poem to a periodical are included in this tag. Some--like Sara Teasdale and Nicholas Vachel Lindsay--are remembered chiefly as poets, while others--such as John Dos Passos and Sinclair Lewis--are better known for their prose. This tag also demonstrates the wide range in poetic styles circulating in Greenwich Village. Though some visitors to Frank Shay's bookshop penned avant-garde verse, perhaps an equal number wrote in more traditional forms. This tag reminds us that the radical poet and the author of light verse often lived alongside one another, were published alongside one another--and sometimes were even friends.
